Budapest metro station disrupted by wild boar

A wild boar caused significant disruption at the Kossuth Lajos tér metro station in Budapest on Saturday. The animal was observed using an escalator to reach the platform and briefly entered a metro carriage; however, no passengers were injured during the incident.

Following its appearance on the platform, the animal moved onto the tracks and hid beneath a stationary train. After the station was evacuated and power was cut, emergency services and a veterinarian assessed the animal. Due to injuries sustained—potentially from contact with a train—a professional hunter was called to the scene and shot the animal to prevent further suffering.

The incident forced a temporary suspension of the M2 metro line between Deák Ferenc tér and Déli pályaudvar, with replacement buses provided for commuters. While initial reports suggested the boar was struck by a train, BKV officials clarified that the animal had moved under a waiting train instead. Experts noted that urban wild boars are capable swimmers, suggesting the animal may have crossed the Danube to reach the city center.
