Budapest hidden gardens and historic architectural sites

Budapest offers several unique locations for those seeking to escape the pace of daily life through historical architecture and hidden greenery.

One notable site is the Epreskert, a garden associated with the University of Fine Arts. Surrounded by Bajza, Kmety György, Munkácsy Mihály, and Szondi streets, this area has been referred to as a ‘fairy garden’ since the 19th century. The site features strawberry trees, antique and medieval sculptures, and the ruins of a 13th-century medieval gate from Matthias Church. It also houses the former studios of artists such as Gyula Benczúr, Károly Lotz, and Alajos Strobl.

Another significant location is the villa of painter László Fülöp in the Zugló district. The neo-Gothic building, which resembles a medieval castle, served as both a residence and a studio for the artist.
