Budapest hosts first day of 2026 Judo Grand Slam
The Judo World Tour returned to Budapest, with athletes from 67 countries competing on the first day of the 2026 Hungary Grand Slam at the Papp Laszlo Arena.
Key results from the opening day included:
• In the -48kg category, Sabina Giliazova secured gold after a technical battle in golden score against Kristina Dudina. • 18-year-old Izhak Ashpiz won his second Grand Slam gold in the -60kg category following a successful Ura-nage. • Ayumi Leiva Sanchez of Spain claimed her first Grand Slam gold in the -52kg category by scoring a yuko against Poland's Barbara Twarowska. • Bulgaria's Boyan Yotov took gold in the -66kg category, securing an ippon after previously scoring a waza-ari. • Haruka Funakubo of Japan won the -57kg category, utilizing a yuko and dominant groundwork to secure the victory.
