Budapest K-híd bridge renovation begins

The comprehensive renovation of the K-híd bridge in Budapest has officially commenced after more than a decade of delays. The project, which provides access to Hajógyári-sziget and the Sziget Festival site, is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027.

During the first phase, which lasts until June 2027, vehicular traffic on the bridge will be completely suspended to allow for the renewal of the roadway and the southern pedestrian walkway. Pedestrians and cyclists will be redirected to the northern walkway; however, cyclists will be required to dismount and walk across the bridge for safety.

To minimize disruption to major events, construction will be paused in June 2027 during the Generali Children's Sziget and in August during the Sziget Festival. The final phase of the project, scheduled between September and December 2027, will focus on reconstructing the northern walkway and applying corrosion protection to the structure.
