Budapest K‑bridge reconstruction set to begin autumn 2026
Budapest Közút Zrt. has launched a tender for the full reconstruction of the Óbuda K‑bridge, which provides the main road link to Hajógyári-sziget. Works are scheduled to start in the autumn of 2026 and are expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
The project will replace the deteriorated deck slab, widen the carriageway from 2.8 m to 3.5 m, install modern vibration dampers, upgrade corrosion protection, and relocate utilities such as electricity, telecommunications, water and sewage pipes. The historic lattice appearance of the bridge will be preserved while meeting contemporary load standards.
Construction timing is coordinated with the Generali Gyerek Sziget and Sziget festivals, ensuring the bridge remains fully open during the summer 2027 events. The reconstruction aims to improve safety, increase traffic capacity, and extend the bridge’s service life for decades to come.
