Budapest Operetta Theatre staff hold secret meeting to protest leadership
Employees of the Budapest Operetta Theatre held a secret company meeting on Monday to discuss ongoing grievances regarding the institution's leadership. The staff expressed dissatisfaction with Director Atilla Kiss-B., citing concerns over professional incompetence, declining artistic quality of new productions, low audience numbers, and inadequate salaries.
Cast members and staff have engaged in social media protests to show solidarity against the current management. Some employees stated that the best solution would be for Atilla Kiss-B. to resign, or for the ministry to remove him and appoint a commissioner to oversee a new director selection process.
While the director has claimed that only a small fraction of the troupe is dissatisfied, workers reported that well over fifty employees have signed open letters of protest. Participants in the meeting, including actress Anna Peller, noted that representatives from almost every sector of the theatre were present to voice their concerns.
