Budapest police investigate recent school and hospital bomb threats

Police in Budapest are investigating three recent bomb threats targeting schools and a hospital. While authorities have identified commonalities between the recent incidents, they have not yet found a direct link to a wave of school bomb threats that occurred in January of last year.

One specific threat targeted the Kontyfa General School and Gymnasium in the XV district early on a Thursday morning. Although no explosives were discovered during searches, the threat caused significant disruption, leading school leadership to advise parents to keep children at home where possible.

The National Investigation Bureau is currently working with international partners regarding investigations into previous threats from 2025. Those cases often involved the use of untraceable email addresses and foreign servers. Authorities have noted that the costs resulting from these false alarms will be charged to the perpetrators or, in the case of minors, their parents.
