Budapest police relocate protest to protect Sólet Festival
Police have relocated a pro-Palestinian demonstration in Budapest to prevent potential disruption of the 10th annual Sólet Festival. The festival, organized by EMIH, is a major Jewish gastro-cultural event scheduled for August 30 at Városháza Park.
Following concerns raised by EMIH regarding the safety and atmosphere of the festival, authorities moved the protest gathering point to Szabadság tér. Despite the relocation, organizers of the march, led by Gergely Komáromy (G Ras), stated the route will still pass near the festival site as they march toward Szabadság Bridge.
In a statement to MTI, the protest organizers apologized to the Jewish community, claiming they were unaware the original route overlapped with the festival. They emphasized that their goal is to protest the actions of the State of Israel and defend human rights, rather than targeting the Hungarian Jewish community or its cultural traditions.
