Budapest protesters demand settlement for foreign currency loan victims
Hundreds of individuals affected by foreign currency loans held a demonstration in downtown Budapest, marching from Deák Ferenc Square to the headquarters of the Hungarian Banking Association. Organized by the Association of Consumers Affected by Banking under the leadership of legal expert Dániel Z. Kárpát, the protest featured participants carrying torches to demand fair settlements and legislative solutions.
Protesters are calling for financial institutions to settle accounts in accordance with European Union court decisions. Organizers emphasized that the movement is non-partisan and seeks long-term resolution rather than mere suspensions of enforcement. Dániel Z. Kárpát stated that banks should proactively contact affected customers to initiate fair compensation, rather than seeking concessions from the government.
In addition to the march, participants engaged in a signature collection drive to encourage the adoption of the ‘Lex Marczingós’. The demonstrators maintain that the issue of foreign currency lending remains unresolved and require lawmakers to apply European law to finalize the compensation process.
