Budapest railway derailment causes petroleum leak and transport delays
A petroleum-carrying train derailed at the Rákos railway station in Budapest's X district on Monday afternoon. The accident caused two tanker wagons to overturn and a third to tilt dangerously, resulting in a petroleum leak covering approximately two square meters. Firefighters successfully contained the leak and are currently supervising the safe transfer of the petroleum using protective water sprays.
Railway services remain significantly disrupted. While some traffic has resumed with restrictions, full restoration is expected to take time. The S80 line is currently suspended. Passengers are advised to use alternative services, such as the Agria and Mátra InterRégiók trains between Budapest and Gödöllő, or BKK bus and metro lines. Some commuter trains, including the G60 and Z60, are operating but facing delays of 20-30 minutes.
