Budapest road and bridge closures scheduled for Wizz Air Half Marathon

Budapest is facing significant traffic disruptions this weekend due to the 41st Wizz Air Budapest Half Marathon, scheduled for Sunday, September 6. The event, which has attracted over 24,000 participants including thousands from 117 different countries, will necessitate various road and bridge closures across seven districts.

Major traffic restrictions will affect the Árpád, Margaret, Liberty, and Chain bridges. Additionally, several embankments (Buda and Pest lower embankments), Pázmány Péter Promenade, and other key thoroughfares will experience intermittent or full closures. The Budapest Police Headquarters (BRFK) has advised motorists to exercise caution and expect delays.

Public transportation will also be impacted. The Budapest Transport Center (BKK) reported that numerous bus and tram lines will operate on modified or shortened routes. Specific disruptions include the suspension of certain tram services between Boráros tér and Széchenyi István tér and changes to several bus lines to accommodate the race route.
