Budapest teen dies in railway electrocution at Budafok‑Háros station

A 17‑year‑old boy died and a 16‑year‑old girl suffered life‑threatening burns after climbing onto the roof of a freight wagon at Budafok‑Háros railway station in Budapest. Contact with the overhead line caused an electric shock that killed the boy on the spot; the girl’s injuries covered about 70% of her body and she was taken to a burn centre in critical condition. A third teenager who was with them was shocked but escaped serious injury, though he was hospitalized in a state of shock.

This incident marks the third fatal electrocution of teenagers on Hungarian railway property this year, prompting the national railway operator MÁV to reiterate warnings that contact with the overhead line is lethal even without direct touch to the wires.
