Budapest to clear construction cordons and make Városliget car‑free

Hungarian transport and investment minister David Vitézy announced that the government will dismantle the long‑standing construction barriers that have blocked parts of Budapest’s City Park (Városliget) for years. The areas behind the cordons will be cleaned up and turned into green public space, advancing a plan to transform the park into a world‑class recreation area.

The initiative also includes making the park car‑free by diverting traffic from the M3 motorway that currently passes through it, and redesigning the heavily paved Heroes' Square (Hősök tere) and nearby large asphalted zones into usable public squares. The work will be carried out by the Ministry of Transport and Investment in cooperation with the Zugló district council and the Budapest city government.
