Budapest infrastructure projects to impact tram 6 and K-híd bridge
Budapest is preparing for significant infrastructure renovations affecting public transport and road traffic.
Starting September 28, tram line 6 will undergo track modernization on Karinthy Frigyes Road between Irinyi József and Bercsényi streets. The project, expected to last until November 22, involves replacing 800 meters of track with more durable, quieter technology. During this period, trams 4 and 6 will operate under a temporary 4-6 designation, terminating at Újbuda-központ instead of Móricz Zsigmond körtér. Nightly replacement buses will run on the full line, except on Friday and Saturday nights. Additionally, Karinthy Frigyes Road will temporarily become one-way toward Irinyi József Street.
Separately, the K-híd, which connects Óbuda to Hajógyári Island, is scheduled for reconstruction starting in mid-October. The project aims to improve load capacity by widening the vehicle lane from 2.8 to 3.5 meters and installing vibration dampers. While the bridge will close to road traffic, pedestrian access to the island will remain continuous on one side. Work schedules will pause during major events like the Sziget Festival to ensure accessibility.
