Budapest–Belgrade railway completes major load testing
The Budapest–Belgrade railway has successfully completed its most extensive testing to date. Hungarian Transport Minister Dávid Vitézy announced that overnight simulations were conducted under maximum load conditions, following a scheduled timetable for peak traffic periods, though without actual passengers.
During the tests, experts evaluated various traffic disruption scenarios and the infrastructure's response. The train control and protection system, critical for ensuring safety at speeds up to 160 km/h, functioned well. However, Vitézy noted that the passenger information systems were not satisfactory and must be corrected by the contractor.
A formal evaluation of the results will be conducted in the coming days by experts from Hungarian Railways (MÁV), national transport authorities, and the quality control company TÜV. Passenger service will only commence once authorities are certain that safety is fully guaranteed.
