Budapest–Belgrade railway passenger service expected by December
Hungarian Transport Minister David Vitézy announced that testing for the European Train Control System (ETCS) on the Budapest–Belgrade high-speed railway section has been successfully completed. This safety system is a critical prerequisite for passenger operations.
If the project remains on schedule, domestic passenger services within Hungary could begin in the second half of October. International passenger traffic is expected to commence in December.
Final technical works are currently underway to ensure the track geometry remains stable for speeds of up to 160 km/h. This involves a two-month process of adjusting station tracks, switches, and open-line tracks to account for the settling of the ballast following construction and load testing.
