Budapest‑Cegléd‑Szolnok railway to start major maintenance on June 20

From 20 June, the Budapest‑Cegléd‑Szolnok (and onward to Debrecen) railway line will undergo extensive maintenance in two phases, the first running until 18 July. The work, overseen by MÁV Group, aims to reduce speed restrictions and restore the 120 km/h line speed, with track‑ and switch‑renewals at several stations including Kőbánya‑Kispest, Ferencváros, Abony and Cegléd.

During the works passengers will face timetable changes. Nyírség InterCity trains will depart from the Eastern station instead of the Western, leaving 10 minutes earlier and arriving about 13 minutes later. Other InterCity and regional services will also run 1‑6 minutes earlier departures and 9‑14 minutes later arrivals. Some local S‑type trains will have adjusted start‑times, while a few services will be omitted. MÁV Group CEO Hegyi Zsolt said the upgrades are intended “to reduce speed restrictions and restore the hourly 120 km/h speed”.
