Budapest's 'Wonderland' musical debuts on Margits Island

The Hungarian National Theatre premiered the large‑scale musical "Wonderland" on the open‑air stage of Margits Island. Directed by Viktor Nagy, the production reimagines Lewis Carroll’s Alice story for adult audiences, exploring themes of burnout, identity and personal growth. The cast includes Sándor Péter as Jack, the White Knight, alongside Janza Kata, Jenes Kitti, Vágó Zsuzsi, Szemenyei János and Mészáros Árpád Zsolt.

During the debut, actor Gömöri András Máté, who has been living in Canada for three years, posted on Instagram that the musical’s choreography reminded him of 1990s boy‑band videos and hinted he would consider returning to Hungary if a "Backstreet Boys‑style" production were staged. He also mentioned working on personal projects abroad while maintaining ties to the Hungarian theatre scene.
