Budaörs water crisis and Budapest safety concerns reported

Residents of the Frankhegy area in Budaörs are facing a severe water shortage, forcing them to purchase expensive water at costs between 7,000 and 11,000 HUF per cubic meter. Despite a formal request for an extraordinary municipal meeting to address the lack of a drinking water network, the local government has provided only template responses, stating that meaningful answers await the completion of a settlement plan review expected by mid-2025. The Budapest Waterworks noted that while the issue was identified in a 2012 plan, implementation remains the responsibility of the municipality.

In Budapest, authorities are increasing patrols and cleaning efforts around bottle return points in the V. district, specifically near Bajcsy-Zsilinszky Street and Teréz körút, following reports of pollution and a violent confrontation. A conflict at a Lidl location involving a bottle return led to a death threat against a staff member, prompting calls for increased public space supervision to ensure safety and cleanliness in high-traffic areas.
