Buddhists celebrate Prabarna Purnima festival

Buddhists are observing Prabarna Purnima, the second largest religious festival in Buddhism, which marks the conclusion of the three-month rainy season retreat (Varshavas) for monks. Also known as Ashwini Purnima, the day is significant for its connection to the life of Gautama Buddha and serves as a symbol of self-purification and the rejection of evil.

In Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Buddhist Federation has organized a day-long program at the International Buddhist Temple in Merul Badda, Dhaka. The scheduled activities include morning prayers, Buddha Puja, offerings to the Sangha, recitation of the Tripitaka, and a discussion on the significance of Prabarna Purnima and global humanity. The celebrations will conclude in the evening with light decorations and a lantern festival.

Following this observance, the month-long Kathina robe offering festival is set to begin on Monday.
