Buddy Guy celebrates 90th birthday, blues legend honored worldwide
American blues guitarist Buddy Guy will turn 90 on July 30, marking a milestone celebrated by fans across generations. The milestone coincides with renewed public interest sparked by his cameo in Ryan Coogler's film Sinners, which introduced him to a younger audience. Guy continues to tour, extending his 2023 “Damn Right Farewell Tour” due to strong demand, and he runs the iconic Buddy Guy’s Legends club in Chicago.
In June 2024 he released his twentieth studio album, Ain’t Done with the Blues, featuring collaborators such as Joe Walsh, Joe Bonamassa and Peter Frampton. The album and his ongoing performances underscore his lasting influence on the blues genre, which began when he moved from Lettsworth, Louisiana to Chicago in 1957.
Celebrations of his birthday include special concerts and tributes, highlighting his role as the living bridge between the genre’s golden era and its present‑day resurgence.
