Buddy horror film parodies children's television nostalgia
The new horror film “Buddy,” written and directed by Casper Kelly, explores a dark twist on the nostalgia of children’s television. Set within the colorful world of the fictional show “It’s Buddy!”, the story follows a group of children interacting with a bright orange unicorn named Buddy, voiced by Keegan-Michael Key.
The plot centers on the unsettling consequences that arise when one child refuses to participate in the show’s games. As Buddy’s behavior becomes increasingly menacing, characters Freddy and Wade attempt to escape the character’s control. The film is noted for its meticulous production design, which recreates the aesthetic of late-90s afterschool programming.
The cast features Cristin Milioti, Patton Oswalt, Michael Shannon, Topher Grace, Delaney Quinn, and Caleb Williams.
