Bude resident rescues seagull impaled by fishing hook

A seagull in Bude has been rescued after being impaled by a fishing hook. Local town councillor Viki Herbert-Coulson discovered the bird in distress at Summerleaze Beach while walking her dog.

Upon inspection, it was discovered that the hook had passed through the bird's lower beak and the barb had entered its throat, with fishing line and weight still attached. Herbert-Coulson waded into the river to retrieve the bird as the tide was coming in.

The injured seagull was subsequently taken to Tamar Vets, where an on-call veterinarian provided emergency medical treatment.
