Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Musa killed in Budgam encounter

Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam district neutralized a top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander, identified as Sulaiman Shah, also known as Musa or Mohammad Asif, during an overnight operation. The joint mission, involving the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the CRPF, was launched in the Korag area of Yousmarg following specific intelligence regarding militant presence.

According to officials, the encounter occurred in the dense forested and mountainous terrain of the Dudhpathri area. Musa, a former Pakistan Army Havildar who served in the elite Special Services Group (SSG), was a high-profile target wanted for his alleged involvement in several attacks, including the 2025 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. His death is considered a significant blow to the LeT network in the region.

Security forces recovered war-like stores from the site. The operation, part of a broader effort to dismantle cross-border networks, remains ongoing as troops continue to search the area for other suspected militants. Musa had previously escaped an encounter in the Yousmarg hills on September 5, during which his close associate, Yasir, was killed.
