Budgie Desktop releases version 10.10.3 with Wayland fixes
The Budgie desktop environment has released version 10.10.3, a substantive minor update for the 10.10 series. Developed by Joshua Strobl and the Buddies of Budgie, this release focuses on refining the post-Wayland experience.
Key features include the reintroduction of the Keyboard Layout applet, which was rewritten in C to resolve crashes under Wayland. Users can now place desktop icons freely, utilize auto-arrangement and grid snapping, and add applications to a favorites list within the Budgie Menu. Additionally, the update allows for primary monitor selection via Budgie Desktop Settings and improves the labwc bridge for keybindings and configuration migration.
Technical improvements also address panel crashes, polkit hangs, and high CPU usage. The release includes updates to Budgie Desktop View 10.10.3 and Budgie Desktop Services 1.0.3, which should be updated in conjunction with the main desktop environment. Budgie is utilized in various Linux distributions, including Fedora Budgie Spin, Ubuntu Budgie, and Solus.
