Budi Gunadi Sadikin to represent Global South in WHO candidacy

Indonesian Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin has revealed that President Prabowo Subianto has entrusted him with a specific mandate regarding his potential candidacy for Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO).

According to Sadikin, President Prabowo requested that he advocate for the interests of developing nations, also known as the Global South, should he be elected to the position. The President emphasized the need for these nations to have a stronger voice in international health leadership, noting that while they represent a large portion of the global population, they often face significant economic and poverty-related challenges.

Sadikin noted that the President’s significant international influence serves as a foundation for this mission to ensure that the concerns of developing countries receive greater attention on the global stage.
