Budva celebrates 59th Dan širuna traditional festival

Budva celebrated its 59th Dan širuna festival, a long-standing local tradition held in the square in front of the Old Town. Organized by the Sport Fishing Club ‘Širun’ under the patronage of the Municipality of Budva and the Budva Tourist Organization, the event drew thousands of visitors, including many international guests.

The festival featured a variety of cultural and culinary activities, including the tasting of traditional Adriatic fish such as dentex (širun) and mackerel, alongside local wines and beer. The program included musical performances, traditional dances, and a popular competition where participants attempted to grab prosciutto from an oiled beam suspended over the sea.

Tihomir Fabris, president of the Sport Fishing Club ‘Širun’, opened the event, noting its importance in preserving the spirit of old Budva and attracting tourists to the region. Local officials highlighted that such festivities serve to extend the summer season and showcase the city's authentic gastronomy and culture.
