Budva's 40th Grad Teatar Festival Opens with 'Noć skuplja vijeka

The 40th edition of the Grad Teatar Budva festival opened on Tuesday, 30 June, on the square in front of the Old Town in Budva, Montenegro. The opening featured the premiere of the contemporary dance‑music spectacle “Noć skuplja vijeka”, directed and choreographed by Igor Kirov. The production is a co‑production of the city theatre and Belgrade’s Bitef theatre and blends modern dance with live music performed by three musicians.

The piece involves nine dancers and three musicians and is described as a contemporary dialogue with the spirit of Petar II Petrović‑Njegoš, inspired by his poem of the same name. The creative team includes composer Irena Popović‑Dragović, dramaturge Đorđe Kosić, scenographer Vesna Popović, costume designer Dragica Laušević and video designer Sanjin Ćorović. The performance marks a milestone for the festival, which has been a cultural pillar in the region for four decades.
