Latin American authorities conduct major operations against organized crime

Law enforcement agencies across Latin America have conducted several operations targeting organized crime and drug trafficking. In Colombia, the SIJIN and the National Navy arrested two alleged leaders of the “Los Espartanos” criminal group in Buenaventura, including Walter Valverde, alias “Betún,” who has a 20-year criminal history.

In Ecuador, the Ministry of Defense reported that armed forces have executed approximately 1,238 daily operations nationwide, resulting in the capture of several gang members linked to groups such as “Los Fatales,” “Los R,” and “Chone Killers.” These efforts have led to the seizure of over 423,000 weapons, munitions, and explosives since January.

In Honduras, the National Police in the Yoro department apprehended a suspected drug distributor in El Progreso and arrested nine others for various offenses. Additionally, in Argentina, police in Coronel Suárez conducted raids that led to the arrest of a young man and the seizure of narcotics and mobile devices during an investigation into drug trafficking violations.
