Buenos Aires authorities evict occupants from Núñez building

The Government of the City of Buenos Aires executed a judicial order to evict more than 100 people from an eight-story building in the Núñez neighborhood. The property, located at Manuela Pedraza 1875, had been occupied for approximately 30 years.

The building, which contains 32 apartments, lacked essential services such as electricity and gas and was reported to be in poor structural condition. Authorities noted the presence of accumulated trash and scrap metal. Residents had previously reported the site as a source of insecurity, citing incidents such as intentional fires.

During the operation, various agencies participated, including the City Police, the Government Agency of Control, and the Council for the Rights of Children and Adolescents. Most of the occupants were identified as foreign nationals from Peru, Bolivia, and Paraguay. Following the eviction, the building was cleaned and boarded up to prevent re-occupation.

City Chief of Government Jorge Macri stated that the operation is part of a broader policy to recover usurped properties, noting that 937 properties have been returned to owners since December 2023, with an estimated value of $500 million. Macri linked property usurpation to local issues such as drug activity, human trafficking, and illegal textile workshops.
