Buenos Aires autodrome undergoes major renovation for MotoGP and F1 return

Argentina is advancing major structural renovations at the Oscar y Juan Gálvez Autodrome in Buenos Aires to facilitate the return of international motorcycle and car racing. Local authorities have confirmed that MotoGP is expected to return to the country in 2027, with construction progress reportedly ahead of schedule. The improvements are aimed at meeting modern safety standards and securing necessary homologations by early 2027.

Beyond MotoGP, there are efforts to develop an alternative track configuration designed to meet Formula 1 standards. This includes a new 4.9-kilometer layout with 15 curves, which could potentially be named in honor of five-time F1 champion Juan Manuel Fangio. The project also aims to attract the World Endurance Championship (WEC).

The City of Buenos Aires has invested approximately $100 million into the 189-hectare site to transform it into a primary motorsports hub for South America. While the return of Formula 1 is not yet confirmed, officials are actively negotiating, and Formula One Management (FOM) has recognized the high level of local interest in the sport.
