Buenos Aires begins circuit modernization to host MotoGP and F1

Authorities in Buenos Aires have commenced the first phase of renovation works at the Autódromo Oscar y Juan Gálvez. The project began with the resurfacing of a 120-meter test section of the track to evaluate new asphalt that must meet the technical standards of both the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) and the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM).

The immediate goal of the infrastructure upgrades is to prepare the circuit for the return of MotoGP in April 2027. This event is intended to serve as a large-scale test of the facility's operational capacity. Beyond the track surface, the broader modernization program includes restructuring access zones and constructing new grandstands to meet international hosting standards.

Local officials, including Buenos Aires government chief Jorge Macri, view these improvements as a stepping stone toward the long-term ambition of bringing Formula 1 back to Argentina. The country has not hosted a Formula 1 race since 1998.
