Buenos Aires celebrates 75 years of Charly García with ‘Semana Charly’

The City of Buenos Aires is hosting ‘Semana Charly’ to celebrate the 75th birthday of legendary rock musician Charly García. The festivities run from Thursday, October 22, through Sunday, October 25.

Events are scheduled across various venues, including the Anfiteatro del Parque Centenario, Casa de la Cultura, Centro Cultural Recoleta, and La Usina del Arte. Highlights include a retrospective of photographer José Luis Perotta at the Museo de la Ciudad and musical tributes such as Ligia Piro’s ‘Inconsciente colectivo’ at Parque Centenario.

García, a central figure in Argentine rock through bands like Sui Generis and Serú Giran, was declared an Illustrious Citizen of Buenos Aires in 2010. The city's Minister of Culture, Gabriela Ricardes, noted that the celebration honors an artist whose work is part of the collective memory.
