Buenos Aires Chemistry Council demands reports on arsenic in water
The Professional Chemistry Council of the Province of Buenos Aires has requested detailed reports from local municipalities regarding arsenic concentrations in water intended for human consumption. This institutional action follows the release of an arsenic map by the Buenos Aires Institute of Technology (ITBA), which identified elevated levels in various locations.
The Council is seeking information on the frequency and scope of water monitoring, recent analysis results, and the identification of specific sources with high concentrations. Additionally, the entity has asked for details on preventive, corrective, or treatment measures currently in place or planned, as well as any specific surveillance programs or public health recommendations provided to residents.
According to the ITBA 2025 update, several areas show significant levels, including Guaminí (295 µg/L), San Vicente (163 µg/L), Partido de la Costa (147 µg/L), and Monte (146 µg/L). Other areas with high readings include 9 de Julio, Mercedes, Chivilcoy, and several municipalities within the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area, such as Vicente López, Ezeiza, Almirante Brown, and General Rodríguez.
