In August 2026, Argentina's cost of living showed significant increases in essential goods. According to INDEC, both the Total Basic Basket (CBT) and the Basic Food Basket (CBA) rose by 2.6% monthly, outpacing the general inflation rate of 1.7%. This monthly increase brought the year-to-date rise for the CBT to 22.7% and the interannual increase to 38.3%.
For a typical family of four, the minimum income required to avoid poverty reached $1,605,497, while $726,469 was necessary to avoid indigence. In the City of Buenos Aires, poverty thresholds were slightly higher, with families requiring at least $1,651,798 to avoid poverty and $2,603,556 to be considered middle class.
Regional disparities remain prominent. A survey by Analytica identified Santa Cruz as the province with the highest cost for a typical monthly grocery basket, at $1,044,640. Other high-cost provinces include Chubut, Río Negro, and Tierra del Fuego, all located in the Patagonia region.
Additionally, reports indicate that frequently used medicines in Argentina are up to 6.7 times more expensive than in countries such as India, highlighting significant price disparities in the pharmaceutical sector.
