Buenos Aires deregulates vehicle technical verification service

The City of Buenos Aires has deregulated its Vehicular Technical Verification (VTV) service, ending the existing monopoly. Under the administration of Jorge Macri, the measure allows private mechanical workshops, service stations, and dealerships to register as service providers, provided they meet specific equipment and technical requirements. This shift aims to foster competition, potentially reducing costs for drivers and optimizing service times.

Following this move in the capital, discussions regarding similar reforms have resurfaced in the Province of Buenos Aires. Senator Pablo Petrecca has advocated for a legislative review to expand the current system. The proposed provincial initiative seeks to allow inspections to be conducted at authorized private workshops and official dealerships rather than being limited to existing verification plants, mirroring the regulatory changes implemented in the City of Buenos Aires.
