Buenos Aires disability advocates warn of worsening PAMI crisis

The CTA (Confederación de Trabajadores de la Argentina) held a preparatory meeting for the province’s second Disability Parliament, bringing together people with disabilities, families, organizations and officials. Participants highlighted growing violations of disability rights under President Milei’s administration, including difficulties accessing public transport, disability pensions and compliance with the provincial law that mandates a 4% employment quota for people with disabilities.

The Unión de Trabajadores del Estado (UTERA) warned that the National Institute of Social Services for Retirees and Pensioners (PAMI) is in a deepening crisis. Union leader Rubén Grimaldi cited a lack of resources, severe staff shortages, a 7.4% wage increase despite 34% inflation, and reduced capacity to meet urgent calls. He urged preparation for a “stage of struggle” to defend the institute, workers’ jobs and retirees’ right to health services.
