Buenos Aires expands recognition of iconic historic restaurants

Buenos Aires has expanded its gastronomic heritage recognition by designating eight new iconic restaurants to its official catalog. This initiative, led by the Association of Hotels, Restaurants, Confectioneries and Cafes (AHRCC) alongside the Ministry of Economic Development and the city's tourism agency, aims to integrate these historic venues into tourism promotion efforts similar to the existing 'Notable Bars' circuit.

The new additions include establishments such as El Globo (founded 1908), Spiagge di Napoli (1926), Chiquilín (1927), Cervecería López (1943), Pucará (1960), Gardiner (1989), Piegari Ristorante (1990s), and Puerto Cristal (1995). Selection was based on age, menu authenticity, atmosphere, and social relevance.

This recognition complements the city's long-standing culinary traditions, such as the historic pizzerias Güerrín and Banchero. Güerrín, established in 1932 on Avenida Corrientes, is noted for its wood-fired ovens and 'al molde' pizza, serving as a cultural landmark for the city's theatrical community for decades.
