Buenos Aires expands SAME with new 24‑hour emergency base in Liniers
The City of Buenos Aires inaugurated a new strategic base of the Sistema de Atención Médica de Emergencias (SAME) at Hospital Santojanni in the Liniers neighborhood (address Pilar 950). Designated as base number 32 and the sixth opened under the current municipal administration, it operates 24 hours a day and is directly linked to the city’s emergency line 107 and the SAME central operations.
The facility includes two rooms, two bathrooms, a staff lounge and an office for radio‑operators. Officials highlighted that the base will shorten ambulance arrival times for red‑code emergencies, which currently average under five minutes city‑wide. Governor Jorge Macri, Health Minister Fernán Quirós and SAME director Alberto Crescenti attended the opening and stressed that every minute saved can mean life or death.
SAME now runs ten hospital bases, 22 extra‑hospital sites, three helipads and eleven landing points, staffed by more than 1,300 personnel who handle roughly 250,000 calls annually with a fleet of 110 vehicles, including 70 ambulances, 40 special units and two helicopters.
