Buenos Aires government awards Canal de la Ciudad concession to CALE GROUP MEDIA
The Buenos Aires government has awarded the concession for Canal de la Ciudad to CALE GROUP MEDIA S.A. for a five-year term. The company, controlled by Augusto Marini, operates the streaming channels Blender and Carajo. Records indicate the company originated in 2022 as a call center and reported only four employees on its payroll as of March 2026.
The transfer of the channel is expected by late October, occurring alongside the bidding process for radio stations AM 1110 and FM 92.7 La 2x4. Critics and the Observatorio del Derecho a la Ciudad have challenged the process, noting that the administration bypassed the Legislature and the public hearings required by the 1996 Constitution.
Legal challenges have faced setbacks, as Judge Martín Furchi rejected an injunction sought by the Observatorio. Documentation from the bidding process suggests the winning company does not meet the mandatory liquidity index and relies on a business plan involving co-productions sold back to the government.
