Buenos Aires government recovers hotel occupied for 21 years

The Government of the City of Buenos Aires has recovered a hotel in the Constitución neighborhood that had been occupied for 21 years. Located at Sáenz Peña 1723, the building was reported to be in a lamentable state, with destroyed sanitary installations, kitchens, windows, and rooms, making it unfit for habitation.

The eviction was carried out following an order from the Court of First Instance in Administrative and Tax Matters No. 9, presided over by Andrea Danas. The property also carried a tax debt exceeding 20 years. The operation involved the City Police, the General Directorate of Inspection and Control, the Emergency and Relief Guard, and personnel from the Ministry of Human Development and Habitat.

Mayor Jorge Macri stated that the administration will continue these operations to liberate all usurped properties, emphasizing that the occupation of buildings contributes to local crime, including drugs and human trafficking. Since December 2023, the city administration reports having recovered 974 properties, a figure officials estimate to be worth more than 500 million dollars.
