Buenos Aires Governor to propose new judicial appointments

Governor Axel Kicillof announced plans to send new proposals to the Buenos Aires Senate to fill vacancies for magistrates and officials within the provincial judiciary. The announcement was made during a meeting with authorities from the College of Magistrates and Officials of the Buenos Aires Judiciary.

The meeting, which included Justice Minister Juan Martín Mena and Government General Advisor Santiago Pérez Teruel, also addressed the relationship between the province and the National Supreme Court. The College of Magistrates expressed support for legal actions being pursued by the provincial government before the National Supreme Court.

Legal analysts have warned that the current judicial vacancy crisis in the province has created institutional fragility. Of the seven positions mandated by the provincial constitution for the Supreme Court of Justice of the Province of Buenos Aires, only three are currently occupied by permanent judges. Experts suggest this lack of a stable majority prevents the court from establishing legal doctrine, which is essential for providing guidance to lower courts and ensuring a consistent judicial system.
