Yomif Kejelcha sets half marathon world record in Buenos Aires
Ethiopian runner Yomif Kejelcha set a new men’s half marathon world record at the Buenos Aires Half Marathon, finishing with a time of 56:51. This performance lowers the previous ratified record of 57:20 held by Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo. The result is currently awaiting official ratification by World Athletics.
Kejelcha’s victory was part of an Ethiopian sweep on the podium, with Tadese Worku finishing second in 59:20 and Bereket Nega Batebo in third at 1:00:20. In the women’s race, Ethiopia’s Fotyen Tesfay won with a time of 1:03:56, also setting a new course record for the event.
The 37th edition of the Buenos Aires Half Marathon saw a record turnout of approximately 31,500 participants. Among the top Argentine performers, Ignacio Erario claimed the national title with a time of 1:00:59, while Sofía Luna led the Argentine women’s field with a time of 1:11:21.
