Buenos Aires hosts 19th Antique Book Fair
The 19th edition of the Buenos Aires Antique Book Fair will take place from October 28 to November 1 at the Plaza Seca of Palacio Libertad. Organized by the Association of Antiquarian Booksellers of Argentina (ALADA), the event features 26 specialized bookstores offering rare and collectible books, engravings, maps, historical photographs, and cultural or political posters.
The theme for this year focuses on 1926, a foundational year for Argentine literature marking the centenary of Ricardo Güiraldes’ ‘Don Segundo Sombra’ and Roberto Arlt’s ‘El juguete rabioso’. The fair will showcase items ranging from 15th-century books to early 20th-century artistic avant-garde publications.
Programming includes three public talks in the Salón de Honor, covering topics such as the tension between tradition and the avant-garde in Güiraldes’ work and the technical challenges of bookbinding and conservation. The event is free to the public.
