Buenos Aires illuminates Medalla Milagrosa sanctuary facade
The Government of the City of Buenos Aires has completed a new lighting project for the facade of the Santuario de Nuestra Señora de la Medalla Milagrosa in the Parque Chacabuco neighborhood. This marks the first time the iconic neoromanesque temple has been illuminated at night.
The project involved installing two lighting columns and 31 warm-light projectors along Curapaligüe and Asamblea avenues to highlight the sanctuary’s architectural features, including its two bell towers and a dome exceeding 40 meters in height. The church is notable for containing nearly 150 stained glass windows, the largest collection in Buenos Aires.
This intervention is part of a broader municipal plan to illuminate 85 emblematic buildings and monuments across the city’s 48 neighborhoods. According to Ignacio Baistrocchi, Minister of Public Space, the initiative aims to preserve urban memory, reinforce local identity, and improve public safety by creating more attractive and secure environments for residents and tourists.
