Buenos Aires to tax online slot machine prizes by 2%

The Government of the Province of Buenos Aires has announced the implementation of a 2% tax on prizes won through specific online gambling modalities. This measure, regulated by Resolution N° 1.149/2026, targets games of immediate resolution, commonly known as digital slots or online slot machines, where results are instantaneous.

According to Minister of Government Carlos Bianco, the tax will apply to prizes paid by the seven authorized online gaming platforms operating in the province: Bet365, Betano, Betsson, BetWarrior, Bplay, Sportsbet, and Stake. Notably, sports betting is excluded from this specific levy. The provincial government estimates that this mechanism will generate between 35,000 and 40,000 million pesos per month.

The collected funds will be directed to the Fondo de Progreso e Inclusión Social (FOPIS). These resources are earmarked for social programs in health, education, and social development, as well as strengthening policies to prevent and address ludopathy, particularly among adolescents. The measure utilizes a framework already established in Provincial Law 15.079 from 2018, with the authorized companies acting as withholding agents.
