Buenos Aires implements divergent VTV vehicle inspection rules

The City of Buenos Aires (CABA) has begun implementing a deregulation of its Vehicle Technical Verification (VTV) system under Law 6.963. This new model allows for a wider range of service providers, including private mechanical workshops, official dealerships, and importers, provided they meet technical requirements. A key change is the introduction of free pricing, allowing authorized establishments to set their own rates rather than following a government-mandated fee. Additionally, for new private vehicles, the first inspection will now occur at five years instead of four, with subsequent inspections every two years until the vehicle reaches ten years of age, after which annual checks are required.

In contrast, the Province of Buenos Aires will not adopt this deregulated scheme. The provincial government, represented by Transport Minister Martín Marinucci, confirmed it will maintain its current regulatory framework and existing system of 66 inspection plants. The province will continue to manage its own schedules, authorized locations, costs, and deadlines, asserting its autonomy to regulate the service locally.
