Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area sees rise in “black widow” robberies

Authorities in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA) are investigating a surge in “black widow” crimes, with prosecutors reporting approximately 60 incidents per week, averaging nine cases per day. These criminal groups typically target victims through nightclubs, social media, or dating applications.

In a recent case in Villa Lugano, one woman was arrested for her alleged involvement in a scheme targeting two dentists. After meeting the victims at a club in Palermo, the group reportedly accompanied them to an apartment, where they drugged their drinks with sleeping pills. Once the victims lost consciousness, the suspects allegedly stole money and valuables. While one suspect is in custody, three other women remain at large as police continue their search.
