Buenos Aires officials launch new mental health programs in Lomas de Zamora and Trenque Lauquen

Mayor Federico Otermín of Lomas de Zamora announced a municipal mental‑health and problematic‑consumption programme that will deploy 125 psychologists across the city’s 40 integrated health centres and add a local psychiatric ward at the Llavallol Hospital. The initiative, presented with provincial health officials, was framed as a response to rising distress linked to national austerity policies.

Governor Axel Kicillóff inaugurated the Mirta Clara Community Mental‑Health Centre in Trenque Lauquen, a 750‑square‑metre facility built with a 1.018‑billion‑peso investment to provide group and individual therapy, outpatient services and rehabilitation. The opening, accompanied by the province’s health minister, also featured the distribution of free property titles and criticism of the national government’s disinvestment in mental‑health services under President Javier Milei.
