Buenos Aires pork producers face low profitability and rising imports

The Provincial Pork Table, led by Javier Rodríguez, the Minister of Agrarian Development of Buenos Aires Province, addressed critical challenges facing the pork industry. Key issues identified include low profitability, a reduction in the number of producers, and an increase in imports.

Stakeholders, including representatives from the Argentine Agrarian Federation, CARBAP, SENASA, and the University of Buenos Aires, analyzed the current production landscape. Producers expressed concerns regarding the sanitary conditions of imported products and the use of ractopamine in production systems. Minister Rodríguez noted that rising costs and increased competition from imported meat are risking the continuity of the activity, potentially leading to higher production concentration.
